Mann-Northway Northern Bears finalize coaching staff

A mix of new and familiar faces will help support and coach this year’s Mann-Northway Northern Bears.

Over the past few days, a number of staffing announcements were made via the team’s social media page.

Head Coach Steve Young will return for his third year, and Assistant Coach/ Dryland Coach Colten Smith returns for his second season.

Among those joining the team are Shelley MacDonald as the new female assistant coach. MacDonald was on the board of directors last year and expressed an interest to be more involved.

She has first hand experiences and knows what it takes to play at the College level, having played hockey and lacrosse at Elmira College, New York and won the New England Prep School division II Championship while attending Brewster Academy.

Also new behind the bench is Scott Reed as assistant coach.

Reed bring over 20 years of coaching experience with Prince Albert Minor hockey at various levels. Last season, he was the head coach of the U18AA Foxes, leading them to first place finish in the Northern Division along with a great payoff run.

On Sunday, the club announced Emily Rudderham as their new athletic trainer. Emily is a licensed paramedic with Parkland Ambulance and has a hockey background as a hockey player and as a referee.
