Bears win Canadian Crown tournament

The Mann Northway Northern Bears left it all on the ice this weekend.

The U18 AAA female hockey team from Prince Albert was in Devon, AB for the Canadian Crown Championship – a 12-team tournament featuring teams from across Western Canada.

After winning the round-robin third overall with a 2-0-0-1 (W-L-T-OTL) record, Prince Albert clinched a spot in the A finals on Sunday before moving on to the Championship game on Monday against the Swift Current Wildcats.

The game went into 3-on-3 overtime before being decided in a shootout. Aliya Clarke scored a goal during regulation time and also scored the winner in round two of the shootout as the Bears slid past the Wildcats 2-1 Monday afternoon to capture the championship title.

Goaltender Annika Neufeldt turned aside 35 shots for the PA Northern Bears in the win.

Neufeldt and Jersey Andersen made the tournament All-Star team.

Next up for the Northern Bears is regular season action against the Saskatoon Stars on Thursday night. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. at Merlis Belsher Place.
